Planting
Water Moroccan mint as soon as possible after receiving it. You can proceed in various ways. You can place the pot indoors temporarily in order to plant it outdoors on your patio or decking at a later time. Or you can plant this perennial in a herb garden or border.
For inside:
For outside:
Choose a warm, sheltered location to place the plant.
For inside:
- You can place the nursery pot in a beautiful flowerpot. For this, choose a flower pot with holes in the base and a matching saucer.
- You can also choose to place the nursery pot on a saucer in order to collect the water. In this way the water is able to drain away properly.
- Use a decorative pot in which the water from the inner pot is collected.
For outside:
Choose a warm, sheltered location to place the plant.
- Replant Moroccan mint into a larger pot. Fill the flower pot with fresh potting compost. Remove the plant from the old pot. Place the root ball of the Moroccan mint at the correct depth. Fill the pot with more potting compost and press down gently.
- Replant it to open ground, we recommend planting it with the pot in order to control runners. You could cut away the bottom of the nursery pot.
Care
Care
Water extra during dry periods. Occasional adding fertiliser will do it good. It helps the mint to continue to grow longer, resulting in a longer harvest period.
Mint flowers in July–September with purple flowers that are very popular with butterflies and bees.
Place the pot in a sunny to part sunny spot.
If you prefer to plant mint in open ground, you should know that this plant has a tendency to spread. So do not allow it this opportunity by locking in the roots and planting it with its pot.
If, for whatever reason, your plant has become less attractive, you can cut it down completely so that new shoots can be produced.
Mint can be harvested throughout the year. It is easy to harvest mint by cutting off a leaf stem. Always leave the heart of the plant untouched. The best way to harvest is to use scissors or a knife, but you can also use your thumb and index finger. Do make sure, however, that you do not pull the plant out of the soil. Do not harvest too much from one plant. As long as the plant continues to produce new leaves, you will be able to continue harvesting. In this way you will be harvesting from the same plant throughout the year!
