Plant these Glamini bulbs in the spring at about 7-10 cm deep. First loosen the soil thoroughly with a fork and layer the base of the hole with some sharp sand. This helps with drainage. The Glamini bulbs shouls be planted about 10 cm apart. Gladioli prefer fertile, permeable soil. Improve your garden soil with a mix of well-rotted garden manure. Add some lime to the soil in the winter. Miniature gladioli like a nice sunny spot.

Mixing mini-gladioli with other bulbs

These miniature gladioli come in striking, bold shades and you can make the most fabulous border combinations with them. Plant a group of Glaminis next to Cosmos, or perhaps dahlias. This dwarf variety is just fabulous in pots and planters too. Plant ivy around the edge of the pot to hang over the sides and when the gladiola bulbs come through... perfect!

Once the Glamini buds start to appear, Bakker recommends regular fertilising. Glamini stems are nice and sturdy so no support is required. Deadhead (the whole flower stem) regularly. Gladiola bulbs are best planted in a different spot every year.

Keeping mini-gladioli over the winter

Glamini bulbs are easy to keep over the winter. Carefully fork them up after the first frost. Cut back all greenery to about 10 cm above the bulb and leave them to dry out. Attach a label, then you'll be sure which variety you are planting up next spring. Shake off excess soil and place them in a crate with compost and sharp sand. Store in a frost-free area. Plant out again next spring and your Glamini bulbs will reward you with more lovely blooms.

These profusely flowering mini gladioli make the perfect cut flower that will last a long time in the vase, which makes them a must to have planted in your cut flower garden. Pick them when the lowest bud is showing colour, preferably early morning. Plunge the stems immediately into a bucket of lukewarm water with cut flower feed, before arranging. The sturdy stems on these mini gladioli make them suitable for use with oasis too.
