Planting
What do I need?
• Ornamental planter
• Potting soil
• Hydro grains

How do I plant the Aeschynanthus in a pot?
As soon as possible upon receipt, place the Dischidia in a hanging pot or high flower pot. The branches must be able to hang. Use an ornamental planter with a hole and matching saucer, so that the water can run away. A pot in which water is collected from an inner pot is another option.

Place a layer of hydro grains on the bottom, remove the growers’ pot, and place the plant in the middle of the ornamental planter. The Aeschynanthus should be about 2 cm below the rim. Then fill the pot with fresh potting soil and press it lightly. Give the plant a lot of water immediately after planting.
Care
What do I need?
• Watering can
• Fertiliser for green plants
• Plant sprayer

How do I care for the Aeschynanthus?
Give the plant rainwater regularly and make sure it has a warm spot out of direct sun. Close to a radiator or in a draft is not a good spot. Prevent the soil from drying out. The Aeschynanthus also likes high humidity. Therefore, spray the leaves regularly with rain water. It’s also good to occasionally add plant food to the water.Keep Aeschynanthus cool and dry for about 6 weeks in winter. This allows the plant to create new flower buds.
Extra
Aeschynanthus originated in Asia's tropical rainforests. There are lots of varieties of Aeschynanthus that are now created via hybridisation with lots of different colours of flower.
This long popular plant known as the lipstick plant (probably from the red flowers) was recently renamed as Aeschynanthus pulcher but is perhaps still better known as Aeschynanthus lobbianus. It is classified under Gesneriaceae.
The name Aeschynanthus comes from the Greek - aaischyne: shame, (most likely through the red flower) and anthos means flower. The literal translation is ‘ashamed red flower’.
