Plant the Aeschynanthus pulcher ‘Twister’ as quickly as possible after receiving it, in a hanging basket or tall flower pot, so that the branches of the plant are able to hang down. Choose a pot with holes in the base and a matching saucer. This will allow the water to drain away properly. Or use a decorative pot in which the water from the inner pot is collected. Scatter a layer of hydro pellets on the base of the flowerpot. Add fresh potting compost to the pot and place the root ball of Aeschynanthus pulcher ‘Twister’ at the correct depth. Fill the flower pot with more potting compost and gently press down the soil. Make sure the soil is a little bit below the edge, so there is room for water.
Generously water immediately after planting and preferably place the pot in a warm location, in partial shade (no full sun), preferably not above central heating. Try to avoid draught.
Regularly water Aeschynanthus pulcher ‘Twister’, as the root ball in the pot should not dry out. Preferably water with rainwater and regularly add plant nutrition for blooming plants to the water during growth.
Aeschynanthus pulcher 'Twister' enjoys a humid atmosphere. In order to achieve this, you should regularly spray the plant with rainwater.
Keep Aeschynanthus cool and dry for 6 weeks in winter. During this period, new flower buds are produced.
The oval-shaped leaves are a beautiful dark green colour.
Aeschynanthus pulcher originates from the tropical rain forests of Asia.
Aeschynanthus pulcher is classified under the gesneria family (Gesneriaceae).
The name Aeschynanthus comes from the Greek words aischuno (to be ashamed - probably because of the red flower) and anthos (flower). So the literal translation would be 'blushing flower'. The common English name of this flower is lipstick plant.
