Hydrangea macrophylla 'Rosita'

Hydrangea Hydrangea 'Rosita' pink - Hardy plant

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Rosita'
Stunning pink
A striking border. The hydrangea 'Rosita' (Hydrangea macrophylla) decorates the garden. With a brilliant pink colour! The 'Rosita' flowers profusely in summer.
You can prune the hardy hydrangea in spring. Plant the hydrangea in a nice spot in full sun or partial shade. Make sure that you water the shrub moderately. Give it extra water during dry periods.

If you buy deciduous shrubs in autumn they might not be looking quite as beautiful as usual. The big benefit of planting shrubs in autumn is that by spring they will be well rooted in the garden and ready to burst into growth.

Planting+

Make sure the root ball of the Hydrangea is well-moistened by soaking in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting.  Prepare a suitable hole in good, loose soil. Plant the root ball of Hydrangea at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. This plant grows well in a large pot. Make sure that there are holes in the base to allow adequate drainage.

Moist soil

Hydrangea macrophylla grows best in fairly moist, humus-rich soil. Improve your garden soil by adding some compost to it. This plant grows well in full sun as long as the soil isn’t too dry and also does well in a shady or semi-shady area. The soil should be moist if planting in a pot, but make sure there is good water drainage otherwise the plant may die.

Care+

Water your Hydrangeas regularly during dry periods as dry soil is not tolerated very well. Between March and July to allow for an extra rich bloom, add plant food monthly when watering. Provide it with granulated cow manure early in the year.

Pruning Hydrangea

Hydrangeas bloom on branches that were formed in the previous year. If you prune during the spring, flowers will not appear that same year. However, pruning is not absolutely necessary unless the plant grows too large. In such cases, you can rejuvenate the Hydrangea by removing 1/3 of all its branches, for the first year you'll have fewer flowers, but a normal bloom will occur in the second year. Remove its dead branches and carefully cut away its dead flowers during the winter.

Extra+

Hydrangeas have loose umbels, the well filled flowers are quite unique, they resemble little stars. The flowers first bloom as green and later turn colour. These beautiful hydrangeas will also look gorgeous when used in a flower arrangement.
