Kalanchoe blossfeldiana thrives in a warm, light spot in the living room. The Kalanchoe is a strong, easy growing houseplant that requires little watering (once every 14 days is sufficient). Allow the plant to dry out between waterings. It prefers a South-facing window although the Kalanchoe is suitable for anywhere in the home, even in full sun, but do protect it from intense afternoon sun. The Kalanchoe can survive in a cool room – just water less.
New flowers will continually appear during the flowering season. Pinch off faded flowers and this will encourage new growth. Your Kalanchoe blossfeldiana will finally finish flowering after about six weeks, but do not throw it away. Remove any faded flowers and keep the plant in a cooler spot. After a few months you will be rewarded with new flowers. (If it takes much longer, best to buy a new one!).
Kalanchoe is a strong plant and is practically immune to most well-known diseases. If you should unfortunately find some brown spots or mouldy white threads among the leaves, remove these leaves immediately.
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana belongs to the Crassulaceae (succulents) family. In the wild, these plants grow in the warm and dry steppes of South Africa and India. The Kalanchoë blossfeldiana flowers (and is available) the whole year round.
