Your Garvinea® plants are great for the border and also in planters on your patio or decking, providing they have adequate drainage. Use ordinary potting compost. Choose a spot in full sun, but they can also feel at home in semi shade. Loosen the soil and if necessary improve the soil by mixing in compost. Dig a hole and place the plants at the correct depth. Fill the hole with soil, lightly press and water immediately. The plants feel best in moist, well-drained soil with adequate drainage. Planting distance is between 30-40 cm. Don't let the plants dry out.
Water your Garvinea® on a regular basis (at least twice a week) and fertilise regularly with Bakkers flowering plant fertiliser. Any brown leaves can be removed, also when the faded flowers are removed new flower buds will form. If the leaves turn yellow in the growing season treat them to some fertiliser. It is better if this could be avoided by fertilising every month.
Garvinea® in the winter
Garvinea® are hardy to -5 ° C. When winter is severe, it is advisable to protect the plants and foliage from frost by using a fleece. The plants can stay outside in winter. Do not remove leaves or flowers in autumn only remove them from the plants in spring and then in a short time you will be enjoying the new flowers of your Garvinea®.
The flowers are smaller than those you would find in a florists shop. The shape and great colour range is similar, but there the similarity to Gerberas ends. They bloom more exuberant than Gerberas and are much more resistant to bad weather and are even quite hardy. In the border they will create an explosion of colour! The abundant number of flowers produced compensates for the smaller size of the flower. Garvinea's®. will be a wonderful addition to your garden and will blend well with other border plants.
