How to Sow

Sowing period under glass: March – April.

Sowing is possible from March and is easiest in a small greenhouse on the window-sill or in a cold frame. Fill small pots with sowing compost and push a multi-pellet carefully into each pot and press down gently. Petunias germinate in light, so the seed should not be covered. Spray with water from time to time and warmth will do the rest.

To slow the growth of the seedlings, put them somewhere cooler but still bright. Eventually they can be transplanted into a small pot. From mid-May they can be planted outdoors, after they have hardened off and gradually become acclimatised to the outside temperatures. This means placing them outdoors an hour longer each day, in a sheltered spot out of the sun. After 5 days they will have hardened off and are ready to be planted in their final outdoor destination.
Planting out
Plant the richly blooming petunias in their final destination from mid-May. They are perfect for a beautiful pot on your patio table, but you will also get a great result if you plant them in hanging baskets or used as border or flowerbed planting.

In flower borders and beds place the plants approximately 20 cm apart and 10 cm apart in pots and hanging baskets. Prepare a hole, improve the soil and place the petunias in the plant hole. Fill with more soil, press down firmly and water thoroughly. In a sunny location, your petunias will be smothered with flowers throughout the summer.

Water more often during dry periods. Keep the pot or plot with Fuseables® free from weeds, you will then get better results. They are undemanding plants but do not like to have wet feet. To provide a rich flowering fertilise regularly.

During the flowering period add plant food to the watering can every 2 weeks. Regularly deadhead spent flowers to stimulate flowering, as a result the petunias will produce even more flower buds. The plant will bloom from June until the first frost.
Tip: Petunias are ideal to fill the empty gaps that have been left in borders and flowerbeds from the spring flowering bulbs.
