Duo apple tree: ‘Elstar‘ + ‘Golden Delicious‘ - Bare-rooted - Hardy plant

Malus domestica 'Elstar' + 'Golden Delicious'
Two types of apples. Home-grown
A perfect combination. Two well-known apple varieties on one tree. We have grafted the yellow-green ‘Golden Delicious‘ and the red ‘Elstar‘ onto a single stem. This duo apple tree makes it easy for us to grow delicious apples in our own garden. Alternatively, it can be planted in a large pot on a patio, roof terrace or balcony. The apple tree is self-pollinating.We supply the duo apple tree as bare-root stock — just the bare branch and roots. The branch is freshly removed from the soil. This gives it additional strength, enabling it to branch out faster than it would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They grow better and they're more economical. The fruit tree blossoms in spring. That's when it reveals its lovely white-pink flowers. A crop will be ready to harvest from summer onwards in the second year after planting. We prune the apple tree in winter, provided that it isn't frozen. The duo apple tree grows in well-drained soil that we keep nice and moist. It's best to give the tree extra water during dry spells. Sufficient light is needed to ensure good growth, which is why we plant the fruit tree in full or half sun.

This Dual Apple Tree will thrive in the garden. Make sure the root ball on your Dual Apple Tree is well-drenched before planting by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water. Prepare a suitable hole in fertile garden soil. Improve poor garden soil by mixing in some well-rotted manure. Plant the Dual Apple Tree (Malus domesticus) 'Elstar' and 'Golden Delicious' at the appropriate depth - the top of the root ball should be approximately 10 cm below ground level. Give the tree good support from a tree post and wrap a tree belt around both pole and trunk. Fill the hole and press firmly in. Water generously immediately after planting. A Dual Apple Tree will thrive in fertile soil in a spot in full sun.

Dual Apple Tree in a container

This Dual Apple Tree (Malus domestica) 'Elstar' and 'Golden Delicious' is supplied at a height of 80-100 cm. You can plant this patio tree in the ground, where it will eventually grow into a fairly big tree but you could also plant the Dual Apple Tree in a large container and grow it as a smaller tree. It will remain small in a container.

Malus domestica 'Elstar' and 'Golden Delicious' apples are both strong and healthy apple varieties. We advise a mulch of well-rotted manure and fertiliser pellets around the base of the tree in winter. Water extra during periods of drought. In August, thin the fruit out by removing the smallest apples so that all the energy goes to the larger fruit. The apples can be picked in October.

Pruning a Dual Apple Tree

Prune apple trees from November through to March as long as there is no frost. Fruit trees continue to grow from the top, so if you want to keep your tree shorter we advise topping it off. Most apple trees grow short and strong side shoots on which the apples develop – you can stimulate their growth by cutting the main stems back about a third, to right above a bud. Then cut side shoots back to 3-6 buds and you will then see the fruit develop on there.

The famous Dual Malus domestic Apple Tree has 'Elstar' and 'Golden Delicious' apples which are delicious and have firm, juicy flesh. The taste is aromatic and slightly sweet and sour. The skin of 'Elstar' is red and the skin of 'Golden Delicious' is yellowish green. These two different apples pollinate each other. Both types of apple can be eaten freshly picked, but they can also be pureed. Apples are very good for us and high in vitamin C.
