Planting+

The ideal time to plant begonias is in the spring, once the frost period has finished. Plant the tubers with their concave side facing upwards, about 20 cm apart from each other, and cover them with a thin layer of soil. Do you want to enjoy the colours of your begonias earlier? If so, plant the tubers in planters in February or March before putting them outside in the garden. The warm temperature of your house will allow your double begonias to bloom earlier. This way, you can admire them for much longer. The young plants do not like to be subjected to too much sunshine so to begin with choose carefully where they are placed. Begonias are also great in borders and planters on the patio or decking.

The tuberous begonia as a bedding plant

The begonia grows well in flower pots or planters but it also makes a terrific bedding plant. Especially when planted out in large groups the begonia always makes a statement in the garden. The flowers are mostly very large and appear throughout the summer.

Care+

Large-flowered double begonias are tuberous begonias and if you take the necessary action they can hibernate through the winter. We recommend lifting the tubers from the ground when the first night frost is predicted. Keep them in a dry place during the winter. In spring, once there are no more night frosts, you can plant the begonias back out in the garden. Soon you will be enjoying the colourful flowers.

Begonias with a rich flowering

The large-flowered double begonia prefers a partially shaded spot. However, if they are placed in full sunshine, make sure you give them plenty of water (approximately 2-3 times per week). Water the plants in the afternoon once the bright sun has disappeared, otherwise, the leaves may burn. Begonias appreciate some fertiliser on a regular basis, they will then bloom richer and even more beautiful.

Extra+

This tuberous begonia has an asymmetric leaf shape with one side longer than the other. Begonias are colourful bloomers, their colours can be combined with others to make them look even more appealing.
