The strong slender Deutzia ‘Strawberry Fields’ is very suitable for planting in the garden. First moisten the roots of the shrub well by putting the Deutzia in a bucket of lukewarm water. Dig a spacious planting hole of 50 x 50 x 50 cm and loosen the soil well. Plant the root ball of the Deutzia ‘Strawberry Fields’ at the right depth in the planting hole. The top of the root ball should be just below ground level. Fill the planting hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. The Deutzia grows well in nutritious soil in a spot in full sun or partial shade.
The slender ‘Strawberry Fields' is a strong garden shrub that doesn't require too much maintenance. Water more often during dry periods, especially the first year after planting. You can also add some garden fertilizer to the soil around the roots at the end of the winter. To keep as a compact shrub cut back hard after the flowering. Rejuvenate if necessary by cutting about 1/3 of the branches completely away.
Deutzia flowers on year old wood. Prune back lightly after flowering in order to keep the bush compact. If you want to keep it really tight, cut all branches hard back every year after flowering is over.
You can rejuvenate the shrub every 5 years by cutting 1/3 of all the branches hard back -repeat this in subsequent years so that the entire plant is rejuvenated within just three years.
Without pruning, this shrub will reach 1.5 to 2.5 m high.
The Slender Deutzia is a small compact shrub that flourishes well producing many pinkish-red flowers. Therefore Deutzia 'Strawberry Fields is ideal for a pernnial or shrub border. It will also look spectacular surrounded by a low growing buxus headge. Another plant to grow alongside it is the later flowering bush (Buddlleja). The height over time reaches approximately 1 metre. The intense star-shaped tinged pink flowers are quite special. The heart is white with striking bunch of yellow stamens.
