Prior to planting make sure that the root ball of Clematis is soaked well by placing in a bucket full of lukewarm water. Prepare a suitable hole in good, well-drained loose soil. Clematis will thrive with a mix of nutritious compost in the garden soil. Place the roots of the clematis at the right depth in the hole - the top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil, press firmly down and water immediately after planting. Place this climber in complete sunshine or partial shade.
The clematis really dislikes dry soil, so water more often during dry periods. They like to keep their ‘feet' cool and damp whilst the foliage is in the sun - clematis will appreciate you planting low-growing plants around the base or covering with a mulch of garden compost mixed with fertilizer. This climbing plant grows well along a fence or pergola. Help them climb and fill in gaps by twining their new shoots around a support as they grow.
A compact grower, this clematis can grow to 2-3 metres high and the flowers will form on last year's shoots.
