Place your chrysanthemums in a sunny spot, otherwise the flowers will not open. Chrysanthemums can be kept indoors and outdoors. Of course they have less trouble from wind and weather when in a nice sunny indoor spot.
Water the Chrysanthemums when the top layer of soil feels dry. Never water the flowers, only the soil. Chrysanthemums don't like to have their feet wet so empty the saucer after 10 minutes!
Plants in bloom will flower for longer if you allow the plant to stand overnight in a cooler room (15°C). Chrysanthemums do not thrive in too low temperatures and definitely cannot tolerate frost. Keep them indoors in a sunny spot when it freezes outside.
Extend the Chrysanthemums' flowering season by regularly deadheading. Plants that are no longer in flower can be overwintered in a cool, frost-free greenhouse. Or you may also decide it's time to buy a new one!
The name Chrysanthemum comes from the Greek khrusos meaning gold – the original colour of chrysanthemums. Nowadays they are available in the most beautiful shades.
