Prepare a large hole for your Prunus avium ‘Compact Stella’ and loosen the soil. Make sure the root ball is well-moistened before planting Dwarf Cherry by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water. Plant the roots of the Dwarf Cherry at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. The Dwarf Cherry grows best in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny spot.
Dwarf 'Compact Stella' in a pot
Prunus aviun 'Compact Stella' grows well in a large flower pot or patio container. It takes up little space but provides great benefits. Place the Dwarf Cherry in a sheltered, sunny spot. You can create a 'mini-orchard' by planting the Dwarf Cherry, Peach, Apricot and Apple in pots and placing them together on your patio or decking.
Prunus avium ‘Compact Stella’ is easy to grow. Water the cherry tree regularly. Are you growing your Dwarf Cherry in a pot? Never let the root ball dry out. Early in the year, we recommend applying some mixed organic fertilizer to the soil. Place a layer of compost around the tree. The cherries will ripen depending on the weather in the second half of July, you'll know when they are ready for harvesting by the dark colour. To protect against the birds getting to the fruit first it is advisable to put netting over the tree.
Dwarf Cherry can be pruned
Is your Dwarf Cherry growing too tall? Then nip the top. Completely cut back any dead branches. After harvesting, prune the branches that have borne fruit. Prune crossing branches and any branches growing vertically. Never prune in frost!
The Dwarf Cherry only takes a few years to grow and won't take up much space. Beautiful white cherry blossoms will appear during the year. The delicious sweet cherries can be picked in the second half of July. You can eat them straight from the bush or use them for making a delicious jam. Cherries are very healthy. They are low in calories but contain a lot of fibre and vitamins.
