Cherry tree ‘Compact Stella‘ - Bare-rooted - Tree

Prunus - avium - 'Compact Stella'
Not got much space, but still want a fruit tree? Then give the cherry tree ‘Compact Stella‘ a try. This is a mini version of the ordinary cherry tree. The ‘Compact Stella‘ produces a large number of tasty, sweet and shiny cherries. We plant the tree in our garden. Or in a large planter. We supply the ‘Compact Stella‘ cherry tree as bare-root stock — just the bare branch and roots. The branch is freshly removed from the soil. This gives it additional strength, enabling it to branch out faster than it would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They grow better and they're more economical. The fruit tree blossoms in spring. That's when it reveals its lovely white flowers. A crop will be ready to harvest from summer onwards in the second year after planting. If the cherry tree gets too tall, we prune the crown a little. After harvesting, we prune the branches that have borne fruit. The cherry tree grows in moisture-retaining soil that we keep nice and moist. It's best to give the tree extra water during dry spells. Sufficient light is needed to ensure good growth, which is why we plant the fruit tree in full or half sun.

Prepare a large hole for your Prunus avium ‘Compact Stella’ and loosen the soil. Make sure the root ball is well-moistened before planting Dwarf Cherry by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water. Plant the roots of the Dwarf Cherry at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. The Dwarf Cherry grows best in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny spot.
Prunus avium ‘Compact Stella’ is easy to grow. Water the cherry tree regularly. Are you growing your Dwarf Cherry in a pot? Never let the root ball dry out. Early in the year, we recommend applying some mixed organic fertilizer to the soil. Place a layer of compost around the tree. The cherries will ripen depending on the weather in the second half of July, you'll know when they are ready for harvesting by the dark colour. To protect against the birds getting to the fruit first it is advisable to put netting over the tree.
