Planting+
Carrot seed requires no special preparation. Try sowing a row of carrots every 3 weeks, then you will always have fresh carrots to hand.

The bio-gardener sows alternate rows of carrot with onion.
Care+
There is no need to add extra fertiliser... your carrots do not require it. Water more often during dry periods. Keep the plot weed free as this helps to promote the growth of the roots.
Specifics+
Carrots are orange which is the colour of the Netherlands ‘Royals’. In the 17th century, ships of the VOC brought back with them a purple carrot discovered in Iran. The Dutch market gardeners, very patriotic, multiplied trials, successfully, to give carrots an orange colour. There is a range of various colours available. The seedlings can withstand some frost but fully grown carrots cannot and must be harvested before the first frost.

The 'Amsterdamse Bak' is the ideal sweet and juicy early carrot and is very popular as well as delicious! A fast grower, they can also be sown late and are easily grown.

The late carrot 'Major F1 hybrid (Daucus carota) is the champion of all winter carrots and the least affected by frost. Very prolific, the 'Major F1 hybrid is tasty and has a nice uniform look about it.
