Put the plant in partial shade. This jungle plant needs high humidity. That is why we spray the leaves occasionally. This prevents the leaf edges from drying out. Always keep the soil moist, without letting the plant stand in water.

This plant is supplied in a standard nursery pot. If you want you can place the pot as a whole in a decorative pot or just stand the nursery pot on a saucer. Otherwise use a saucer under the pot, the excess water can be left in the saucer. Water again only when the water in the saucer has been absorbed or evaporated!
Calathea zebrina is a true forest plant, which means that they really do not like direct sunlight, but love moist air! It is therefore important to be kept humid by misting the leaves regularly with rainwater to keep them nice and fresh looking. If the air is too dry, the edges of the leaves wither and the plant losses its appeal. It does not like to be fed too much. Half the dosage suggested on the packaging of the (liquid) fertiliser.
Due to the 'sleep mode' of the leaves, this plant is also referred to as the prayer plant (folded hands).
Calatheas are members of the Marantaceae family.
Eventually it will flower but the flowers are inconspicuous.
