Planting+

Plant the bromeliad as soon as possible after receipt in a nice flower pot. Choose a pot with drainage holes and a matching sized saucer to catch excess water. Or, use an ornamental pot to collect the water in its base, from the inner pot. Add fresh potting compost to the flower pot and plant your Achmea's at the right depth. Fill the rest of the pot with potting compost and press the plant carefully down into the potting compost. After planting water generously immediately and stand the pot in a warm, fairly light spot out of full sunlight.

Care+

Achmea is such an easy plant to care for as it requires very little care. Always water the urn (centre) of the plant as well as the soil. Use rainwater if at all possible, do not overwater. The water stays in the base of the urn. No need to feed this plant. A temperature between 16° and 24° C is ideal for this bromeliad.

Extra+

A bromeliad in the home is always lovely to see, very striking. A large, pink flowering bract appears from the centre of a rosette of grey-green, striped leaves. The leaves form a narrow urn that holds the water. An urn bromeliad flowers once from each 'urn', the flower lasts for around six months. Bromelia is a very extensive tropical plant family with many different varieties in all shapes, sizes and colours. Many species grow on trees. A well-known family member of the urn plant is the pineapple plant.
