It would be best to plant the pond plant Sparganium erectum in a pond basket. Cover the base of the basket with a piece of sackcloth and fill it with special pond compost. Place the branched bur-reed in the basket and fill with soil. Cover everything with the remaining sackcloth and finish with a layer of gravel. Place the basket approximately 10-30 cm deep in the pond. If there is no shallow waterside section in your pond, you should place the basket on a stack of stones. Place this pond plant in full sun or partial shade.

Combining branched bur-reed

The branched bur-reed (Sparganium erectum) is a pretty aquatic plant that will give your pond a natural appearance. You could combine Sparganium erectum with the flowering rush (Butomus umbellatus) and the yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus) along the border of a natural pond. These waterside plants will certainly attract all kinds of animals.

Sparganium erectum is an easy pond plant that demands very little care. Cut away spent leaves in autumn and remove it from the pond.
The branched bur-reed produces thick rootstocks.
If the clump gets too big, you can remove the branched bur-reed from the pond. Divide the clump into smaller pieces and replant only a part.

It is easy to dry the flowers of the branched bur-reed, making them very popular for bouquets of dried flowers. The small leaves remind us of the reed. The branched bur-reed forms thick unbranched spikes and may grow to a metre high.
Sparganiumis a genus from the Sparganiaceae family.
This plant is suitable for shallow water (0 - 40 cm).
