As soon as you receive your Aubrieta ‘Cascade Blue’, plant them up. If the root ball is dry soak the pot in a bucket oflukewarm water. Prepare a large hole and fork the soil well loose. Improve clay soil with a mix of sharp sand. Plant your autbrieta at the right dept - the top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and heel well in. Water immediately after planting. Aubrieta thrives well in a sunny spot or partial shade in loose, well-drained soil.
Aubrieta in the garden
This strong Aubrieta ‘Cascade Blue’ makes a great garden plant. It requires very little care and maintenance, it is an evergreen and flowers from April to June with delightful, dainty blue flowers. A rock garden is perfect for this plant and it will also look great cascading over a low wall. You can create a beautiful spring border by combining it with geranium ‘Birch Double’ and other varieties of garden geranium. Aubrieta also looks at home in a large planter on the patio.
Aubrieta ‘Cascade Blue’ is an easily grown evergreen, hardy perennial that will thrive almost anywhere. Make sure you prevent the soil around the roots from drying out. Deadhead the spent flowers to encourage a second flowering and also, to keep a tidy looking plant cut back some of the stems completely and the young shoots will soon form a new cushion of foliage. Mulch the plants in winter with a layer of leaf litter.
