Prior to planting your Apricot 'Gold Rich' (Prunus armeniaca), make sure the root ball is moistened well by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water. Prepare a large hole and loosen the soil thoroughly. Plant the root ball of the apricot tree at the correct depth, the top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil, press firmly and water immediately after planting. The apricot grows well in well-drained, fertile soil. Plant the tree in a warm, sheltered spot in the sun. It is also possible to grow it in a greenhouse or conservatory. Spacing distance between the trees is 3.5 x 4 metres.
Apricot 'Gold Rich' is an easy-to-grow fruit tree. Provide it with extra water during dry periods. Try and avoid too much fruit accumulating on the branches. To promote their healthy development, remove some of the still young fruit. Allow approximately 7-10 cm fruit spacing between the young fruits so that the apricots develop well.
Harvesting can begin in August but to make the apricots sweeter leave them to ripen on the tree. In early spring, place some compost around the stem of the tree.
Pruning is rarely necessary for the apricot tree although you can carefully maintain the shape of young trees. Prune some branches off the mature trees every 2-3 years.
Apricot 'Gold Rich' is a disease-resistant tree that produces delicious juicy fruits with a yellow-orange skin. Apricot 'Gold Rich' flowers in May and its branches get smothered with charming pink flowers. Eventually, you'll have a fairly large apricot tree. If you want to save space you can also plant it fan-shaped against a south facing wall.
