Thymus serpyllum
A classic beauty
A blanket of pink! This fragrant thyme (Thymus serpyllum) is a wonderful ground cover. This plant is a creeping variety that has very small, aromatic leaves. Their leaves contain fragrant essential oil. Creeping thyme does not mind being walked over. This means it is ideal for rock gardens or for between paving stones. The evergreen pollen is completely covered with beautiful purple flowers in summer. They bloom between June and July.
This little plant does well in poor soil. A dry and sunny spot is perfect for the creeping thyme. You only need to give it a little water.
This is how to create a lot of garden enjoyment!

If planting in the ground, space further apart. Improve your garden soil by mixing in some sharp sand.

Wild Thyme can be planted in a flower pot

Thymus serpyllum makes a great pot plant. Just brush your hand over the leaves and a lovely aroma is released. Plant thyme in a decorative pot or planter and it will look very appealing in a nice spot on the patio table. A shallow pot is also ideal for this creeping plant. Thyme is indispensable in the herb garden but looks just as beautiful in the rock garden, grown between the patio slabs or along the edge of the flower border.

Thymus serpyllum does not tolerated soil that is too wet. This fragrant plant grows best in a sunny area with well-drained, relatively dry soil. The evergreen thyme can suffer from frost. Cut off any unpleasant-looking twigs throughout the year.

You can use the leaves as a culinary herb. The taste of thyme is perfect for meat, stews and in Mediterranean cuisine. Thymus serpyllum is also known as creeping thyme.
