5x Kniphofia "Grandiflora", Yellow/Orange - Bare-rooted - Plant

Kniphofia - uvaria - 'Grandiflora'
Description:
What plant has the common name "red hot poker"? That's right, the Kniphofia. It definitely does that name justice. The yellow and orange flowers point straight towards the sky. They reach almost 90 cm in height when they bloom. It's a true bee and butterfly magnet.

You will receive the Kniphofia as bare-root stock in sugar cane sacking. This is more environmentally friendly than plastic nursery pots. The roots are shipped fresh from the ground. They are already one year old. This gives them additional strength, enabling them to grow faster than they would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They flower better and they are more economical. Bare-root stock plants grow when it becomes warmer. They are winter-hardy perennials. They can be planted at any time, provided that the ground is not frozen.

Red hot pokers do best in full sun. They can be planted in flower pots or around the garden. The flowers begin to appear during the summer. This will continue for months. Always make sure that the Kniphofia has enough water. It should never be soaking wet though.

Planting+
Uvaria Kniphofia 'Grandiflora' needs to be in a sunny or partially shady position, although it will not flower as well in the shade. Uvaria Kniphofia 'Grandiflora' grows and flowers best in fertile, acid or neutral soil that is moist but well-drained, and is enriched with humus. Prepare a suitable hole, improve poor garden soil by mixing in some granulated cow manure. Plant the thick rhizome of the red hot poker upright in the hole, spaced approximately 50 cm apart. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting.
Care+
Red Hot Poker is a perennial that can remain in the same spot for several years. It is important that the soil is well-drained, especially in the winter. Cut off its faded flower stems to encourage a good growth. Tie the leaves together for the winter and cover the plant with a layer of hay or straw. In spring, cut all of its leaves off and soon there will be some new shoots growing above the ground.
