Planting
You can plant Edelweiss immediately after receiving it from us in a flower pot, window-box or in the garden. Would you like to plant Edelweiss in a pot? Choose a pot with holes in the base and cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or hydrograins. Put in some fresh potting compost mixed with sharp sand. Plant the Edelweiss at the correct depth, spaced approximately 10 cm apart. Fill with compost and press firmly, water immediately after planting. Place the pot in a sunny location. If you are growing them in the ground you should space further apart. Edelweiss makes an excellent combination plant Also very beautiful in rockeries or growing from garden walls. Ground cover plants have a creeping growth habit and soon spread to produce a dense carpet of flowers and greenery. They are ideal for filling up bare spots and for planting along edges and between stones. Another advantage of these plants is that they suppress the growth of weeds. Leave a distance of about 10-15 cm between plants to allow them to spread. Combine this beautiful plant with other rock plants, such as Phlox Subulata and Gentiana Sino-Ornata. This beautiful plant also looks great in pots, boxes and planters.
Care
Edelweiss is a perennial that requires minimal maintenance. During each winter, sprinkle some lime around the plants and gently mix into the soil. Fertilization is not necessary. Edelweiss is hardy but does not like too much moisture during the winter. Cut off all of its faded leaves during the spring. The Edelweiss will soon form new shoots once again.
Extra
Edelweiss is a protected plant and comes from the Alps. The white 'flower' is not a real flower; in fact, it has tiny yellow flowers on its velvety, hairy bracts.
