Double flowering Asiatic lily in pot

Thanks to their firm stems these lilies grow well in large pots and planters. For a sensational look, fill the whole flower pot with these magnificent lilies, place the bulbs approximately 10 cm apart. Or create a special combination with other lily varieties and the lower growing China aster (Callistephus).

Regularly add plant nutrition to the water when the Asiatic lily is in flower. Cover the Lilium asiaticum bulbs in winter with a layer of leaves, to provide protection against severe frost. Preferably allow flower pots with lily bulbs to overwinter in a frost-free place. Beware of the orange lily beetle as it is the lily's worst enemy! These creatures can best be controlled by manually catching and removing them. Several pesticides exist, but lily beetles rapidly become immune to them.

Lilies in the right place

The Asiatic, double-flowering lily (Lilium asiaticum) prefers to have its head in the warm sun, but likes to keep its ‘feet’ cool. Therefore, make sure that lower plants are growing around the lilies, covering the ground. Do not place the flower pot in full sun.

The flower colours of the Asiatic, double-flowered lilies are very striking and indeed very special. Did you know that the lily is the symbol for peace? There are many types of lilies, many special colours and lots of magnificent shapes. Lilies make very good cut flowers, the delicious fragrance of the flowers will quickly fill your living room. Be sure to plant a group of lilies in your flower garden.
In order to prevent stains from pollen, you can remove the stamens before arranging the flowers. However, it's best to avoid touching the pollen carriers in order to maintain the natural look of these magnificent flowers.
