3x Rose geranium Pelargonium 'Queen of Lemon' pink

Pelargonium citrosum ‘Queen of Lemon’
Fresh lemon scent
A cheerful plant with a lovely fresh lemony aroma. The citrus geranium 'Queen of Lemon' (Pelargonium citrosum) also keeps mosquitoes away. Besides its lovely lemon scent, the 'Queen of Lemon' also has beautiful, light pink flowers. We can enjoy the charming flowers from summer until late autumn.
The citrus geranium is not winter hardy. Before the first night frost, we put the plant in a light and cool place (7-10 degrees). We cut the branches back a little and remove the old leaves. Place the plant in full sun. Water the Pelargonium immediately after planting. Then we give them a bit of water every morning. Keep the root ball moist. For even more profuse blooming, we add some plant food to its water every week.

Line a porous pot with plastic, or use a pot liner to prevent evaporation and the compost drying out too quickly. Add some potting compost mixed with some sharp sand. Plant  your geranium at the right depth. Fill the pot with potting compost and press firmly down. Water immediately after planting. Stand the pot in full sun.

Scented geranium 'Copthorne' complements other plants

The wonderful fragrance of scented pelargonium citrosa 'Queen of Lemon', makes it the ideal plant for your garden table or for next to your sun lounger. To enjoy this plant even further, you can combine it with other fragrant plants such as mimosa (Acacia armata) or Cosmos atrosanguineus.

Water your scented Pelargonium citrosa 'Queen of Lemon' sparingly every morning and avoid wetting the foliage. Prevent the compost from drying out, even though this plant is fairly drought resistant. The root ball definitely should not be too wet, since constant wetness can lead to root rot - do ensure good drainage. Regularly remove the dead flowers on your 'Queen of Lemon' scented Pelargonium to ensure continuous flowering. For extra profuse flowering, we recommend regular feeding via the watering can.

Scented geraniums must be protected during the winter

The scented geranium 'Queen of Lemon' is not a hardy plant, but you can keep it over the winter. Cut it half back, removing old leaf. Before the first frosts, store the pot in a cool, light room (7-10° C). Water it sparingly (preferably in the saucer) so that the soil does not dry out. In early spring, pot your scented geramium 'Queen of Lemon' up with fresh potting compost. Cut back all young shoots to half again. As the weather heats up, feed and water the scented geranium 'Queen of Lemon' more. Mid-spring, your scented geranium 'Queen of Lemon' will be ready to head back outdoors to adorn your patio. beware late frosts. As this plant can be kept over winter, you can eventually grow a very large plant. The scented geranium 'Queen of Lemon' also makes a great houseplant.

The scent of this pelargonium does not refer to the fragrance of the flowers, it refers to its scented leaves. This variety contains an ephemeral oil which creates its lemon fragrance. By softly crushing the leaves between your fingers you can appreciate the lovely scented aroma. The scent of this pelargonium 'Queen of Lemon' repels gnats and mosquitoes.
