Planting
Plant the White Christmas Rose in the ground as soon as possible after receiving it. Prepare a large hole and loosen the soil. Plant the root ball of the Helleborous niger at the right depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level (do not plant too deep). Fill the hole with soil and press firmly, water immediately after planting. It prefers a sheltered spot in partial shade. The White Christmas Rose looks great in a pot both inside and outside White Christmas Rose is one of the most popular winter bloomers, as the flowers can be enjoyed around Christmas time. Planted in a pot it can be moved close to the house for protection. In fact, it is even possible for the White Christmas Rose to temporarily bloom while indoors.
Care
Give your White Christmas Rose extra water during dry summers. If the roots are too dry during the summer, the flower buds for the next spring will not develop well. When the Christmas Rose stops blooming, remove any unpleasant looking leaves. Black spots may appear on the leaves if the soil is too wet. We recommend leaving the plant in the same spot.
Extra
The White Christmas Rose has large, cup-shaped flowers. They are pure white and have a thick wreath of yellow stamens. This species of Heleborus blooms in January and is a very popular pot plant for Christmas time. Gradually as the flowers fade you will notice green-coloured seedpods appearing in the heart of the flowers. If you place the plant in an area of approximately 17˚ C during November, it will bloom throughout Christmas. The entire plant is poisonous if ingested.
