Peperomia 'Isabelle' - Hanging plant

Peperomia is supplied in a growing pot and will need potting up as soon as possible. Choose a pot one with holes in the base that can stand in a saucer to allow the pot to drain. Water well once settled and stand in a warm, light position out of the full sun. Empty the saucer of any excess water after half an hour as the plant dislikes standing in water. Water again only when the potting compost feels dry to the touch.

The pepper plant (Peperomia)  caperata is a really easy house plant to care for. It prefers rain water to anything else, and a little plant food every fortnight is perfect. Best temperature for a ‘radiator plant’ is anything from 18-28° C and high humidity is also appreciated.

The plant dislikes standing in water so missing a watering is better than giving it too much. When the blooms are past it, you can cut them off.  With proper care the plant will bloom again the following year.

Tip: If you go on holiday for 3 weeks holiday, just forget about it until you come home.

This pepper plant creates quite a striking presence in the living room. There are many cultivars that are highly decorative. The plant has ribbed leaves with alternating light and dark green sections on them. It is a compact grower which originated from the tropical rainforest of Brazil. The flowers often remain for a long time on the plant.

Peperomia is a tropical plant with many varieties and belongs in the family of Piperaceae - there are all varieties, sizes and colours! Many of these actually grow in trees. It is a known member of the white and black pepper family (Piper nigrum).
