Algae-free pond

An ornamental little plant! The lawn pennywort 'Variegata' (Hydrocotyle sibthorpiodes) will brighten up your pond. The aquatic plant has small grey-green leaves with light-coloured edges. The icing on the cake? The lawn marsh pennywort is an oxygenating plant. Our pond stays clear and algae-free! The lawn pennywort can live on land and under water. We maintain a planting depth of 40 cm. Plant the lawn marsh pennywort in the spring. The plant blossoms in the spring.
We prune the plant slightly to shape it with a pruning shear. We remove old leaves and dirt. To encourage good growth, we add minerals to the pond water and ensure that the water's hardness level (pH value and calcium to magnesium ratio) is maintained. We make sure to put the aquatic plant in a sunny spot. The plant comes with a pond basket.

Planting
The lawn marshpennywort (Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides “Variegata”) is best planted in a pond basket. Cover the basket with jute cloth and fill it with special pond potting soil. Put the pennywort into the basket and fill it with soil. Cover everything with the remaining jute and sprinkle a layer of gravel over it. Place the basket 0 – 80 cm deep in the pond. The lawn marshpennywort (Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides “Variegata”) grows well in deep water. Place this pond plant in full sun. May-June is the best time to plant.
Care
The lawn marshpennywort (Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides “Variegata”) is a robust pond plant that requires little maintenance. Prune dead leaves in the autumn and remove them from the pond. If the plant grows too large, you can remove the lawn marshpennywort from the pond in May. Split the root ball into smaller pieces and replant only a few of these.
Extra
The green variety of this gorgeous aquatic plant also regularly occurs in the wild.
Hydrocotyle is a member of the ivy family (Araliaceae). It even has its own sub-family (Hydrocotyloideae) within the ivy family.
