Make sure the root ball of the Dwarf Palm is moist. Does the root ball feel dry? Soak it in a bucket of water for one hour. Choose a large pot or tub with holes in the base. Cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or hydrograins. Put compost in the pot and plant the root ball of the Dwarf Palm at the correct depth. Fill the pot with compost, press firmly and water immediately after planting. The Dwarf Palm grows well when some lime has been added to the compost. Although essentially a houseplant, it will do well on your patio or decking during the warmest summer months. Do slowly acclimatise it to being out in the sun, before leaving out overnight.

The well known Dwarf Palm is originally from the region surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. It is the only palm that grows naturally in Europe. During the summer and under favourable conditions, yellow flowers may appear in short panicles on the Dwarf Palm.
